Truly Equal

Ensuring Enforcement of Gender Equality Laws

Founded in 2018, Truly Equal is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring the enforcement of gender equality laws, particularly Title IX, by identifying and addressing violations in educational institutions across the United States.

To ensure that any organization receiving federal funds complies with Title IX by prohibiting programs or scholarships that discriminate based on gender or sex.

A society where all educational programs and opportunities are free from gender-based discrimination, upholding the principles of equality and fairness.


History and Background

Established by a group of advocates committed to addressing gender disparities in educational institutions and ensuring compliance with federal equality laws. Since 2018, reviewed over 5,000 colleges and universities for Title IX compliance. They've also filed more than 5,600 complaints with the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights, addressing discriminatory programs and scholarships.

Impact and Success

In 2024, Truly Equal completed 2,248 reviews of colleges, filed 1,771 Title IX complaints, and identified 4,692 violations—97.5% of which involved discrimination against men. In addition, they've successfully resolved violations at numerous higher education institutions, including UCLA, Stanford, Yale, Sarah Lawrence, and Binghamton University.
